Dinner en Blanc

This past week I had the pleasure of participating in an activity that I understand to be of French origin. A dinner en blanc means dinner in white and what the whole thing is a really fancy picnic dinner party.

The rules:

1. Show up in all white, down to your nail polish or belt.

2. Within a group, plan a meal. And it has to be up to French snuff! They are the great foodies of this world

3. Bring EVERYTHING with you and your group. When I say everything, I mean everything: table, chairs, tablecloth, dishes, flowers, and maybe even a portable stove.

4. When the bigger group comes together, go to a random (legal) location in the city and set everything up.

5. Have the best time!

Now, like I said before this whole idea is French. Originating in Paris actually! The event held in Paris is super duper exclusive. Getting a coveted invite means you have made it in the Parisian social scene. It is so secret in fact, that the location has to be kept secret each year until the actual evening of. And the locations are just as exclusive ranging from Trocadero in front of the Eiffel Tower to Palais Royales or Notre Dame. I’m just wondering how I could swindle my way into getting invited!

Our gathering may not have been as exclusive but we definitely had just as much fun if not more. Since the French don’t do things half way, neither do we! And we have the pictures to prove it. The food was fantastic and we even brought a game of croquet. This, I hope, was one of the first garden/dinner parties of the summer. It’s times like these where I wish I had a garden! I guess public ones will have to do for now.
