Ok, I am way behind on updating this BUT that’s because we have been having fun traveling!! Which, in my opinion, is an excellent excuse. I have a few more Austria posts to do but I’ll save those for when we are not on the road. In the mean time, we are in Croatia!! To be honest, I didn’t know much about Croatia beyond the fact that they were in the World Cup (controversial but I think they should have won, even though I love France) and it is in southeastern Europe. Little did I know, I would seriously fall in love with it in about two seconds.

It took about two days from Austria/Germany to drive here plus an early morning ferry ride because we are staying on an island just of mainland Croatia. Saturday night was spent in Slovenia along with Sunday morning where we went to church. I loved seeing the few, faithful members coming into their tiny section of an apartment building. Every single member came up and said hello to us in Slovenian and made sure we were doing ok before the meeting started. I have never felt so welcomed in my life. After church, we proceded to drive the eight hours down the beautiful Croatian coast.

I know Mamma Mia is supposed to take place in Greece but it looks sooo similar to Croatia. The white rock is what really gets me. I just adore the combination of red roofs and white stone backdropped by a blue sky and massive fig trees. Ok but you have never tasted figs as good as these. They are sweeter than candy!! Figs will forever be ruined for me anywhere else. In Austria, we get our figs from Turkey and they are sad wrinkly little things that just do not compare.

The way the Menzel’s do vacation is rockin’ awesome. There is not plan other than where we are staying and it is beach all day. If we want to go paddle boarding, we go paddle boarding. If we want to go to a different beach, we go to a different beach. If we want to lay around all day, we lay around all day. A true vacation. And it feels so good.

Yesterday, we lucked out because there was a “fish fest,” meaning the fisherman brought in part of the catch of the day, whipped out a grill, and grilled those bad boys to perfection. They served it with bread and no utensils. Literally finger food. I swear it was the best fish I have ever eaten in my life with one of the best views of my life. We sat on wooden benches in the little harbor and listened to Croatian rock music.

We have only been here a few days, so there will be more photos and content to come! We have only tapped the potential of this country. I seriously could get a summer home here and be a beach bum for six months. As I am typing this, we are listening to the evening birds chirp and watching the sun set behind the mountains on the roof patio. I seriously could get used to this.
